Joe Rogan's stand up, for many years, seemed to be very similar to his podcast. Incredibly insightful, sometimes dark, sometimes silly, but not particularly hilarious. There were always funny moments, but it seemed to stray just a little bit too far from the task at hand: make people laugh.
"Rocky Mountain High" is a massive leap from where his stand up once was. It was downright hilarious, and he did it without losing one molecule of what makes his podcast so great. He didn't have to sacrifice talking about what he loves and what he's passionate about for the sake of comedy. He talked about vegans and their silly philosophies, he talked about the over-reactive "politically correct" media, he addressed the Tracy Morgan issue from a couple years ago. And he did all of this while making the audience (and me) laugh for the full hour he was on stage. I never doubted that Joe Rogan was a brilliant man, but this special removed all doubt that he is a brilliantly funny man as well.
