If you want evidence of the trend, look no further than the making of Super Troopers 2. As you may or may not know, the fellas over at Broken Lizard have been trying to make a sequel to their cult classic for quite some time. The studios wouldn't give them money though. Studio executives - so called "experts" - were SO confident that people would not go see this movie, that they would not give them a (relatively) tiny budget of $2 million.
Well, the people have spoken. As of this posting, Super Troopers 2 raised 125% of their budget in 36 fucking hours. $2.5 million, with 30 days remaining to raise more funds. No limitations, no restrictions, no bosses, nobody who gives a fuck about what they do with their money. At this point, why would you do it any other way? This MUST be plan A from now on. MORE money and MORE freedom.
Mark my words people: The future will be dominated by movies that were paid for by fans, and made by artists.
And, fine. Maybe not so much with the fax machines.
